Teach me how to be happy

A girl woke up,

to dark clouds and grey skies.

It was daylight,

yet the sun was nowhere to be seen.

She saw the smiles of a loving couple,

and heard the laughter of little children.

It reminded her of the loud giggles from her childhood,

and the warm embrace of her mother.

Now replaced by cold, empty air,

she realised, all that once was could never return.

Her heart ached with a growing emptiness,

and it pained her to smile brightly at strangers.

The strange hollowness clawed her out,

and it grew further as she tried to feel.

Tears were unable to escape,

the brief ecstasy of puffs, after puffs, were merely temporary.

Would life ever be worth living, if everyday felt so painful?

If only, there was happiness. How she wished there was a cure to this…
